The Power of Positivity and Healthy Aging

Baby boomers and gen Xers are changing their careers and lifestyles, aligning retirement with pursuing their passions and starting anew. They are now embracing a more holistic approach to aging, accepting both aging and anti-aging as personal preferences. How does it affect individual industries?

Age positivity in practice

For example we can observe a change in the beauty industry. Beauty experts are now changing the way they talk about aging by reframing it in a positive light. Rather than covering up signs of aging, they are educating consumers on the causes of aging and offering supportive supplements to address physical changes.

In an article on The Cut, columnist Amil Niazi encourages readers to think about middle age differently by letting go of external pressures to look young and embracing aging in a more generous way. This can lead to a more pleasurable experience of aging.

Elderly individuals are now major contributors to the financial system and their importance will only increase in the coming decade.

It is time to change our attitudes towards age and aging

Consumers are now guided by new aging terminology and ideology, which encourages them to approach aging from the inside out, with a focus on holistic nurturing and self-guided practices for graceful aging.

They are looking inward to determine how they want to age both physically and psychologically. Some are rethinking traditional anti-aging tactics and deciding that what works for them is “good enough”. They are opting to nurture themselves with gentle or invasive methods to resist aging, and there is no one “right” way to do it.

Time to think about your industry

The cosmetic industry is not the only industry undergoing changes influenced by the Age Positivity trend. What opportunities do you see for implementing this trend in your industry?
